18 Victoria class entries forced a heat-management scoring system.

local sailors Bob Bazett and James Anderson take 2nd and 3rd places.
Hundreds of spectators enjoy the races during Canada's special holiday.

OMSA Blossom Time Regatta, May 26, 2007

Our OMSA season opener was a load of fun, with excellent sportsmanship shown by all of our sailors.
The S.W. winds remained light all day which made tuning of the Victoria rigs fairly easy.
Everyone had a good shot at the trophies as most of the sailors picked up a first place or two.

Eighteen races were completed before retiring for the awards presentation
and some socializing at the Kelowna Yacht Club late in the afternoon.

There were many visitors to Kelowna's Waterfront Park during the regatta, and they expressed
their appreciation to the sailors for the free entertainment.

The next OMSA regatta is on Canada Day, Sunday, July 1st with registration at 9 am.

October 20, 2005
SpektrumRC announces a new digital radio system.

The announcement by SpektrumRC of their new SPM2460 Spektrum DX6 radio system in the 2.4 Ghz band
should totally change the way we control our r/c sailboats. The claims and specifications are impressive.

No crystals to buy,
No concerns about radio channel useage,
radio channel allocation done automatically on turn-on.
receiver lock-out except to one transmitter identity
more control channels than we can use. (6),
error free, digital transmission
no interference, no glitches,
simultaneous dual radio frequency link to your boat
(thats right.. 2 transmitters, 2 receivers,, all-in-one package, for extra reliability)

small transmitter antenna,
dual receiver antennas (only 3.75") for the boat,
conventional two-stick controls, one for sails, one for rudder
digital battery meter in the transmitter
rechargeable Ni-MH transmitter battery
lightweight 7 gram dual receiver for your boat
comes with 4 lightweight servos, (1 would be enough)
radio system is compatible with our sail servos
receivers available seperately at very reasonable prices.
transmitter configurable for up to 10 boats.
reliable enough for model aircraft but legal for surface use.

Check out the details on their web site at:
www.spektrumrc.com

and our own detailed product review

WOW, this is BIG news.

(In 2008, Spektrum introduced the DX6i model
which is even better than the DX6)

Spektrum DX6 transmitter antenna repair details

At least some of the early samples of the
Spektrum DX6 transmitter antennas have experienced breakages.

The "Stock Victoria" class
July 25, 2004

The OMSA is fully supporting a "stock Victoria" class for our club racing in order to make it easier for the beginner sailor to join in the fun and excitement. The "stock" class must use the factory stock sails, however, any of the rigging modifications that are acceptable to the Victoria class can be adopted. This "stock class Victoria" could later be upgraded to "open class" if desired.

The stock class Victoria boats would race in their own events on race days.

Here is a fine example of a "stock Victoria" with OMSA rigging features.
